On January 3rd, 1945, a soul came into this world to Gordon and Margaret Taylor, a blessing whom they named Jeanette Joanne Taylor. Her name would be shortened to Jan, fitting as it matched her abbreviated birth month. Jan would grow like a flower, her birth marked the stem breaking the dirt's plane, and then, as that stem grew, so did she with each emergent petal designating a part of her life: sister, student, friend, golfer. When she fully blossomed, with all of her petals radiating her beauty, she became even more: lover, wife (to David Rollins, 51 years,) and finally, Mother.
Jan was born in Lansing, Michigan, but Texas was in her blood, and her blood's calling beckoned her. She would spend the rest of her life as a Southern Belle, a true yellow rose. Jan graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and went on to receive her BS in Education from Texas State. She spent the rest of her working days teaching for the Austin, Leander, and Round Rock school systems. To say she loved children is an understatement. Jan truly loved teaching and never complained about the difficulties and sacrifices involved; her only concern was for the child entrusted to her.
As the sun set on Jan's career, she retired in Lakeway to nurture the petals most special to her: family. She also loved reading and book clubs; great literature featured prominently throughout her life. Playing golf kept her humble and allowed her to observe nature. Jan felt compassion for all creatures, great and small, and loved taking care of animals, especially her cat, Ulysses, and dog, Tyler.
It is Jan's wish, in lieu of flowers, that donations in her honor be made to the Lake Travis Community Library in her name or to a charity of the individual's choice. Due to the constraints regarding the coronavirus, no immediate memorial services are planned.
