Marianne Allert Slay, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 30th at the age of 88, in Lakeway, Texas. She was born in Gonzales, Texas on November 12, 1934.
Marianne graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in Microbiology. She met Buford “Buf” Slay on a blind date, and they were married in 1958. They had three children (Beth, Glyn, and Melissa) and lived in Richardson, Texas, where Buf worked for Texas Instruments.
From 1969 - 1983, Buf’s work moved them to Taiwan, El Salvador, East Bernard, Portugal, and Midland. Marianne loved traveling and other cultures and fully embraced each move. While living in East Bernard, Marianne went back to school and graduated at the top of her class with a degree in medical records and then worked as a medical transcriptionist.
In 1993, Marianne and Buf retired in Paris, Texas where they were active in the Presbyterian church and community. Some of Marianne’s favorite hobbies included playing bridge, fishing, gardening, quilting, and taking care of many dogs, cats, and fish. When Buf was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, Marianne cared for him until his death at the age of 76.
Marianne spent the final two years of her life in Lakeway, Texas, under the loving care of her son and his family. Marianne is preceded in death by her parents, her brother (Aaron Allert), and her husband (Buf) of 52 years. She is survived by her three children, their spouses, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Marianne will be held on December 9, 2023 at 12 PM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734.
