Josie L. Yslas

March 28, 1933March 22, 2021

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Josie Yslas age 88 from natural causes on March 22, 2021 in Denver Colorado. She was born in Galveston, Texas on March 28, 1933. Services for Ms. Josie Yslas will be held at Advantage Runyan Stevenson Funeral Home 6425 West Alameda Ave, Lakewood Co 80226 on Monday April 12th at 10 am and will be taken to Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery 7777 A West 29th Ave Denver CO 80215 following the small service.

Josie loved to travel with her sister Sofia when ever she could. She moved to Denver 2003 from Erie, Colorado where she moved to in 1970 from Round Lake, Illinois to be closer to family. When she was young, she traveled around the United states as a farm worker. She didn’t speak much of her younger years. When we would ask her how old she was she would joke that she was 200. We all laugh about that till this day. She had a great sense of humor and we did laugh often.

For many years Josie would take care of other children in Erie, Colorado. She had many favorites throughout the years and would still take care of her great grandchildren in the recent years. She loved to go to Black Hawk and Central City. She played cards with many of her friends in her apartment complex and enjoyed going to the various senior centers for activities and playing bingo.

Josie is survived by her sister, Sofia Lopez, Yolanda Bolivar and brother in law, Lou Monge. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children, Aaron Yslas, Yolanda Yslas, Ray Yslas, Tisoq Yslas, Olivia Martinez and Robert Yslas; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in her death by her sister, Ermalinda Monge, Brothers, Lupe Lopez, Beto Lopez and daughters, Olga Reese and Christina Yslas -Avita.

Awh I have many memories of her, but my most favorite was when she would make her famous bean tamales, so happy when she showed me how to make them, her laugh and her joking around, she told you how it was or gonna be, always took care of my son so I could work and go out, She'll be missed, never forgotten. Give my bff Cristina a hug and may you both RIP 🙏❤
Condolences to the family,

Mrs. Yslas will always have a dear spot in my heart and in my memories. I remember her always walking around Erie and always being friendly. She would have to deal with me throwing a fit when my mom would go out dancing with Christina. I can still hear her voice, she will be missed. My condolences to all of her children and grandchildren. May God comfort you all in your time of sorrow. Sending my love and prayers.
