Sean Maes

August 1, 1967September 23, 2021

Sean Maes, 54, passed away on September 23, 2021. He was born on August 1, 1967 in Denver, CO to his mother, Pam Birkholz.

Sean attended Lutheran High School where he was in choir and played football and basketball. Outside of school, he could be found enjoying time with his aunt, uncles and teammates. Shortly after graduating, he began his career in the window covering business as an installer. Eventually, he started his own business in the basement of his home which he grew into the successful Grand Opening Interiors Inc. His passion was working on projects with designers and making tremendous sales.

Sean spent most of his free time with his grandchildren. His world lit up watching Jordan play hockey and Tori dancing around the playroom he had set up in his home. His dogs were his sidekicks and were often snuggled up to him on the couch as he watched ESPN. Sean was an avid New York Yankees fan, fond of the Denver Broncos, and enjoyed most other sports. He loved collecting sports memorabilia as well as playing golf with his brother, son, and/or buddies. Many will miss him and his delicious chicken tacos. Sean was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Sean is survived by his wife Michelle of 13 years, children Erica (Dylan) Billings, Sean M. Maes and Sammy Laycock, his grandchildren Jordan Maes and Victoria Maes, grandmother Virgina Fredrico, parents Pam and Bill Birkholz, and siblings Roberta (Sean) Kasperitis and Daniel Maes. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Moreno.

What a beautiful service today. I was so happy to have shared it with you guys. There are so many wonderful memories I have with Shawn who are the friend for over 25 years. Played golf with him so many times and he done tons of work including blinds in my house, business and anywhere else That had a window, lol. A great memory I have of Shawn was when me and him started Project rescue he was my right hand man. He helped me go to the County prison and launch the program. They told us we had 15 minutes to present our program. 75 inmates walked into the room and the lady looks over and says you have 50 minutes. He didn’t hear the message he said what did she say? I said start praying. We didn’t have 50 minutes of material. God used both of us in miraculous happened and people were filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost and Many prayed through. I will never forget that day and I will never forget my brother. Love you Shawn forever, I’m here for your family if you need me for anything. Al n Jessica Oramas

The funny thing is Al was just going to give Sean a call to see if he wanted to play golf a few days before we got the Heart Breaking new.

I remember Al and I Played Golf with Sean and Brother Hale, Sean would give me good tips to help my golf game, One of the time we played golf with Sean and Bro. Hale,
I was Chipping out of the sand and went Straight into the hole, we were all surprise, Bro Hale was standing on the Green and saw my ball go into the hole.
Sean was a strong and far hitter when it came to Driving the ball down the fairway. I would have loved playing one more time to show him how well all his gold advise improved my golf game.
Set a Tee time in Heaven Sean, because all your family and friends will see you again. (save the sand shots for me maybe I can hit it into the hole again. Prayers for the Family!

Uncle Sean,
I don’t even know where to begin.. and I’m truly at a loss for words.
Growing up, you were ALWAYS my favorite uncle. It amazed me how much you reminded me of my dad, and how much my dad loved you. I remember going over your house and spending the night with Sean Michael and Erica, and staying up till all hours of the night. I remember you taking us to Rockies games and going to church with you. But the one memory I’ll never forget is when you took me to Landmark for their annual Easter program and I remember the man who acted as Jesus kept staring at me, and you looked at me and said “do you see him staring at your Bridgie? Let him into your heart.” It feels like it was just yesterday.
I will miss you forever. Please tell my dad hello and give him the biggest hug and kiss from me. The only solace I find is knowing that my dad was there to welcome you with open arms.
To the family, Aunt Pam and Uncle Bill, Michelle, Sean and Erica, I’m heart broken for you. No words can explain the sorrow I feel throughout my whole body for you, during this unbearable time. I will continue to pray for you and hope that your hearts will begin to mend in due time. This October marks the 9th year of my fathers passing, but I can assure you they are celebrating in heaven together as they have reunited.

My love to all of you, always.

Love you cousin sean!!! I know you are in a better place and I am so grateful for that, but I got to admit I wanted many more years with you cousin. I miss you dearly. I am thankful we got to build many memories together. You were such an amazing dad. I can remember every time I worked with you; the highlight of your day was picking your kids up from school. It may have been the only 30 minutes you got with them that day, but you would put your job on hold and the world had to stop so you could make the most of those 30 minutes. That is what you lived for and it showed!!! Every time I would bring my kids to Denver we would always talk about how excited we were to see you and your dogs, but my favorite part was how within 10 minutes you and I would be on your couch in your basement watching scary videos and funny pranks on utube laughing our butts off. We could watch the same videos over and over again. I'll never forget working with you as a young and ignorant 17 yr old helping u install blinds in the very early stages of your own business. We would take turns shaking the ladder and seeing how close we could come to knocking each other off. I'm sure you already replaced the blinds Jesus provided you in your mansion with your own custom blinds, and I bet you are already selling and installing these blinds to everyone up there via Heavenly Blinds Inc. owned and operated by you. Cousin, I loved going to every church service with you, and going to every astros, and rockies baseball game with you. I miss you like crazy, but we will see each other again, and when we do we will start watching scary and funny pranks again within 10 minutes!!!

While I’ve only had the pleasure of knowing you for the last 13 years, I have grown to love you like my own brother. I will always remember our rivalries on the golf course, the pool table and everywhere else. You were always the biggest kid in the room to get an autograph…the only adult at a Hornets game that can grab MJ’s attention. I am so thankful for our trip to AZ and your visit to Charlotte this year. I will miss you tremendously but will have those memories forever.
