Just learned of Dan's passing.  He was a good man and I was privileged to call him friend. I am so sorry for his loss and send condolences and prayers to Donna, Rebecca, Rachel and family.

Dan was one of the finest people and greatest teachers I have ever known.  He started at Manalapan around the same time as me and we worked together many times over the years as co-workers and friends.  I remember when we were young and creative, Dan set his room up with couches and chairs like a living room.  The principal was a traditionalist with straight rows of desks as the ideal setting. Needless to say Dan's living room was soon moved to a location outside the school.  Dan influenced the lives of 1000's of young people in the most positive way possible by being a great mentor and teacher.  He will be sorely missed.

Dan, such a dear, giving man.  I thank you for choosing me as part of FPAC from its creation, where we worked with so many wonderful young dancers, actors, writers, videographers.  Dan's jovial spirit uplifted us all.  Donna, your support of Dan was always his mainstay.  Thank you, Dan, you will be remembered.

Mr. Green was the most important educator in my life.  He showed incredible integrity, kindness, and generosity. He did many wonderful deeds - big and small - but when I think of Dan Green, the first thing I will always think of is his big, warm laugh. I am most grateful for his laugh. 

It has been 20 years since I was last enrolled in a program led by Mr. Green (Howell High School, Humanities, Class of 1998). Many of the skills I learned to be successful in life were first learned in high school, with his guidance and support. I want you to know that he directly influenced the trajectory of my life in positive ways. I know this is true for many of his other students, too. He lived a life of meaning. 

Mr. Green, you will be missed. Thank you for everything. May you rest in peace. My love and support go out to his family.  

Donna, my heart goes out to you, my old friend. I have thought of you both many times. Danny and I spent so much of our early years together, playing, talking, learning, arguing. 
I still have the scar where we were playing in their dining room and collided and I hit my head. I remember finger painting at that table and arguing because he stayed between the lines and I didn’t. Every time he picked up the green crayon he’d say only he could use it because that was his name, not mine. 
 I remember us playing pranks on Sally as the  “older wiser sister” . That’s what she called herself.  
He always beat me at marbles, too. Girls couldn’t do marbles “right”. 
I remember our fun times, too., you and me. Remember dissecting the goat brain at your house.? With Denise? 
I had hoped to see you both at the reunion. You will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dan's passing and send my condolences to Donna and his family. It's hard to put into words the impact that Dan had on my life and career. He gave me, a young 20-something right out of college, control of the FPAC video program from 2000-2003. "You do what you want with the program. I trust and believe in you." You just don't recover from that kind of empowering leadership, and I owe him tremendously for instilling in me the confidence, passion, and work ethic to keep pushing forward to achieve my career goals. When I told him that I was leaving FPAC to move into higher ed, he knew it had nothing to do with my unhappiness there. In fact, it's still probably the best job I've ever had. "I knew you weren't here for the long haul. I'm excited to see what you do next." For the next 10 years he would serve as my first and best job reference, sharing incredibly positive feedback to my potential employers and locking in my chances in some incredibly competitive positions. Dan was truly a great man and an unparalleled supporter of the arts. I'm so glad he accidentally visited me last year after 14 years, as he was related to my neighbors (a wondrously weird coincidence). Dan was a light in this dark world, and he will be missed!

It is with great sorrow we have learned of the passing of Daniel Green.  Many years have passed since we have been in touch but he will always be remembered as a caring,  gentle part of our family.  To us he will remain Danny Green, forever young.



I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Green. I had the opportunity to experience the wonderful guidance and support of Mr. Green during my time at FPAC. I still remember a few of the life - changing conversations we shared.  To this day,  I still refer to him as one of the two most influential people in my life. I can only hope he knew how many lives he touched in such a profound way.

Mr. Green- you will be thought of and remembered with admiration, appreciation and lots of love. 

My friend from Grade school through Millville Sr. High. Church choir, little league and Eagle scouts together. He was there for me until college and then we went east and west. Difficult to think of someone that important to your growing up no longer being there to laugh or talk or to sell snow cones in the park in the summer. Donna, again, I am so sorry to hear the news, so sorry we did not get together one more time. Our best to your family, their Dad has always been a good person, that means a lot nowadays.

If it wasn't for Dr. Green, my life would've been considerably different.  His creation of FPAC allowed me to meet with people who shared my passion for writing and acting, and in doing so brought a lot of joy to my life.  And his creation of this place did such good because it multiplied that experience by the thousands of students to walk those halls.  I am so very sorry to learn of his passing and the circumstances surrounding same, and send hope for comfort to his family and close friends.

My deepest condolences to Madame Green and the rest of the family. The photo you shared of Mr. Green so perfectly captures my memories of his humor, passion, and enjoyment of life. The two of you made my years at HHS happier and more fulfilling. Thank you.

Mr. Green gave me the opportunity of a lifetime when Mr. Kaz asked me to audition for FPAC for my Senior year. I remember sitting in the room with both of them doing my audition and asking him, “How long before I know.” I didn’t know FPAC existed due to certain reason, but that same day in English class, I was told I would be part of it. Mr. Green also helped my sister enter into FPAC for the writing program.  Mr. Green gave me an opportunity to do something I love and he made my Senior year the best year I had ever had at Howell High School.  I had the option of being in the Peer Leadership program or FPAC, but I knew with what Mr. Green and Mr. Kaz saw on me, I knew my choice. Throughout my senior year I helped him place orders or he would ask me how’s my day and if i was looking at schools for college. There are teachers, then there are educators, but then you have those special gems that impact your life. I have a few of those gems, and Mr. Green was one of them.
To Mr. Green’s family- thank you for sharing him with so many of us. He was an amazing man and a very rare educator that changed many peoples lives. My thoughts are with you all during this time. 

I was a student at Howell's FPAC and truly can't remember a teacher, administrator, or educator in my life who showed the kind of interest and support I received from Mr. Green.   His name came up just last week while my parents were in town visiting.  They were talking to my husband, who mentioned that he keeps in touch with a few of his childhood teachers- my mom immediately brought up Mr. Green and how she felt from a single phone call with him that he was genuinely invested in my education and happiness.  He was truly special and I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.  I remember the photo of his daughters that he kept on his desk- he always seemed so proud when he spoke about them.  Sending my condolences to the Green family, and gratitude for the warmth and support Mr. Green brought to my years at FPAC.

Dan Green... Such a presence... a big presence in an understated way. He was the guy that gave so many of us at MHS our start in theater. Looking back, it really is incredible how he was able to be so many things to so many people, how he was able to direct a huge group of disparate teenagers  into a large scale musical productions, and teach humanities in a way that was so unique and inspiring.  Even after all these years, I still think of him with love and respect as one of the all time greats.  My condolences to Donna and his family. God bless you all.

What a wonderful person and extremely talented. My greatest memory is of our performances in the musical, The Boyfriend. He played a dirty old man who was enamered by a young, nieve flirt, me. We were called on to do an ancore on our senior trip.

My daughter, Ilana Schaffer, was in the humanities program at Howell High School from 1987-2001. That program was a dream for her. She loved it, gave Mr. Green a hard time, but had enormous respect for him. Ilana died in her sleep in 2002. Mr. Green was so kind to our family, and helped us establish a scholarship in her memory for a deserving humanities student.  I have been in touch with her friends from the program today, and we’ve all been sharing memories. Mr. Green was a blessing. May he rest in peace and may you be comforted knowing how many young lives he touched

Mr. Green made an impact on so many of his students, as a graduate of HHS and FPAC 21 years ago, I still have so many fond memories of my years there.
Seeing him in the hallway, behind stage, in his back office, he was like the “Father” to all of us young artists enjoying the programs that he initiated. I will forever be grateful for his support and guidance.

Dan was responsible for one of the most impactful moments of my life -- sophomore year after the opening night of "Bye Bye Birdie",  which he directed with ambition and frenzy. Freshman year I had baseball and soccer and more or less hated both experiences.  Most of the people I liked seemed to be part of this silly clique of kids in the theatre department and I went to seem them in Dan's production of "Oliver!" Lights came up during the overture on a London skyline transitioning from night to sunrise to morning and I was blown away. Even before the first real musical number I knew this was what I was going to do next year. I wanted to learn how to story-tell like that. So the next year I took Dan's drama class and got into the musical ("Birdie"). We had a cast of 80! Every day was an adventure. For eight weeks I watched everything slowly, painfully come together -- all these disparate elements drifting inexorably closer and closer until a cohesive structure appeared -- a story emerged. Costumes, lights, sets, acting, singing, dancing, musicians -- it all came together in the last week. I was astonished and fascinated. I HAD to understand the genius necessary to pull this off! Opening night came and we had a thunderous crowd of some thousand people (it seemed). The show  ended and we took bows and I exited to the makeshift dressing room in the choir room and I paused, in the middle of all that chaos, I paused, purposely, because I knew I felt something I'd never felt before -- the thrill of creation. I paused and said to myself "Never forget this". And I never have.

Dan touched many lives, mine included. 

You may lose touch with them and grow apart from them but you never forget the people who were there when you became you.
