Joanne was born on June 29, 1937 in Doctor Sealy's small, private hospital on a side street in Dumont, NJ.
She was raised in Bergenfield, N.J. and attended St. John Evangelist School there and St. Cecelia High School in Englewood, N.J.
Joanne had an interesting and varied business career. While with ESSO Co.in New York City in Public Relations for seven years, she was the softball team captain. In 1957, she was voted "Miss Jessie" - spokeswoman and representative for ESSO. This was followed with a radio/TV company in Atlanta, GA.
Returning to N.J., she worked in educational sales for 3M for five years. Joanne's interest and concern for others led her to Rockland County Mental Health Facility in Pomona, N.Y. As the vocational instructor and addictions counselor she helped clients troubled with drug and alcohol addictions.
Joanne identified with the struggles women alone face in life. Her most exceptional and unprecedented accomplishments was being the founder of "Feminine Connection" a travel/social organization and "MerryMakers" a social/dance organization. It was within these organizations that so many lives were touched by Joanne's spirit and inspiration, as their love and support fortified her also.
She was always concerned for those struggling with life's many problems and setbacks. After retiring, she returned to the Mental Health Facility in Rockland County, N.Y. to volunteer with drug and alcohol dependent residents in the Arts Programs.
Joanne was pre-deceased by her parents, Al and Marge Martine, brother-in-law Art Kennedy and niece, Laura Kennedy Porter.
She is missed by her loving and caring daughter, Tara Demant and grandson, Kyle Demant; sisters, Midge Kennedy and Anne Robinson (Frank), as well as nieces and nephews; Michelle, Lindsay (Jake), Sharon Amoroso (Mark), Colleen Kennedy (Jim) Kyle Kennedy (Sonya), Kellianne Dishman (Mic), Jeffrey Robinson the their children.
The outpouring of love and grief for her passing are a tribute to Joanne's caring personality and love of live. Her endurance through life's hurdles was , and still is, encouraging to those who lives she touched.
Viewing hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at St. Luke's R.C. Church, 1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, N.J. Cremation will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
