Obituary of David Carl Aikin
David Carl Aikin, age 85, of Lansing, passed away August 3, 2022 in his home surrounded by loving family. David was born January 16, 1937 in Lansing, to Aziel and Doris Aikin. He was married to Linda Caddell Aikin for more than 48 years. David graduated from Sexton High School in 1955, studied at Tennessee Temple and Michigan State University, and graduated from William and Mary College, Norfolk Extension with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He earned a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Virginia in 1970. David taught music in Nansemond County, Virginia, choral music at Groveton High School in Fairfax County, Virginia, and choral music, mathematics, and computer science at West Potomac High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. He retired in 1991. David was devoted to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his wife, daughter, and extended family. David was a member of University United Methodist Church in East Lansing. He was a dedicated volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April, and other charitable organizations. David loved choral and band music; he sang in church choirs all his life. He enjoyed antique cars and tractors, house construction and renovation, tinkering, fishing, camping, spelunking, and gardening. At Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, he organized a “This Old Church” group of retirees to renovate the building. David was a quiet man of few words. He didn’t care to be the center of attention, but did love big family gatherings, carrot cake, and chocolate ice cream. David is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Jessica Marie Kunz (Matthew Kunz), grandsons Simon and Jonah, brothers Russ (Sheila), Paul (Nancy), Bruce (Marivic), and Stephen (Donna), and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister Coralee. A Memorial Service will take place at University United Methodist Church, 1120 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing at 11 am on Wednesday, August 10. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southside Community Kitchen, PO Box 80844, Lansing, MI 48908 or the Parkinson’s Foundation, Attn: Donor Services, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
