He was born on October 18, 1940 in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines to Placido and Aurelia Espinueva. He was the second oldest of eight siblings.
Lauro was studying Marine Engineering at Feati University in Manila when in 1964 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country as a Mess Management Specialist, Wardroom/Galley Supervisor, Company Commander, and Submariner for 26 years. In 1990, he retired with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.
Throughout his career on a myriad of ships, he also served on the submarines USS POGY (SSN 647) from 1976-1978, USS TANG (AGSS 563) from 1978-1980, USS LAFAYETTE (SSBN 616 (BLUE)) from 1984-1986, and finally the USS NEVADA (SSBN 733 (BLUE)) from 1987-1989.
He was awarded the Enlisted Submarine Breast insignia, SSBN Deterrent Patrol Pin, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, RVN Campaign Ribbon, Sea Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, COMSUBPAC Letter of Commendation, and Sixth Good Conduct Award. One of his greatest accomplishments was when he was awarded the City Pin and Key to the City of Las Vegas towards the end of his military career.
After retirement, he continued as a Chef, Restaurateur, and Food Management Specialist, becoming a successful small business owner. With his partner, he established and managed his company, Institutional Food Management, for 20 years. He also served as President of the local chapter of Lions Club International.
He was a devout Catholic who enjoyed reading the Bible, immersing himself in his faith, playing bingo, dancing with his beloved wife, and spending time with his children.
He is survived by his wife Evangelina; his son Ronald; and his two daughters Aprille and Evelyn.
The visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, February 5, 2020 at Palm Eastern Mortuary. The Mass will be held at 10:00 am, February 6, 2020 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The Burial will be held at 12:00 pm, February 6, 2020 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
