August 7, 1929October 3, 2021

Harry J. (Hilary Ignatius) Grabarek, 92, of Las Vegas, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021. He was born on August 7, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois and was a 32-year resident of Nevada. Harry worked for The Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company (now WEC Energy Group) for over forty years in various roles including supervisory instructor for technical training, night superintendent for the 52 person maintenance crew at the company’s headquarters, supervisor of field service representatives and service representative, beginning in 1947, right after he graduated from Bowen High School. His employment was interrupted by his service in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953 where he was in charge of the Postal Supply Station for the Far East Command located in Yokohama, Japan. Continuing his education, Harry received his Associate of Liberal Arts degree in December 1958 from Wilson Junior College.

In 1957 Harry married the love of his life, Dolores P. (nee Grzebyta) Grabarek in South Chicago, witnessed by over 500 family members and friends. They remained in the Chicago area until their retirement relocation to Sun City Summerlin in 1989. Harry continued his active lifestyle in Nevada by playing competitive tennis and, of course, cards and cribbage. He was a member of the Sun City Security Patrol. Harry was also an entrepreneur, both in the real estate and the service/maintenance/repair worlds - he was renowned for his “side jobs” throughout Sun City!

Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dolores (“Doe”) in 2009, his parents, Ignatius and Josephine Grabarek, his siblings and their spouses, Betty (Paul) Guzzo, Cecelia (Fritz) Mlynarczyk and Joseph (Stephanie) Grabarek. He is the last member of The Greatest Generation in our family, but his legacy lives on through his grandchildren, whom he adored and who adored him.

“Dzia Dzia” is survived by his children, Darcy & John Callas and Ned & Linda Grabarek, along with his grandchildren, Hilary (Tony) Frakes, Peter (Catherine) Callas, Kelsey Grabarek and Gregory Grabarek.

Palm Cheyenne Mortuary is assisting the family with private services.
