Mr. Austin was born January 24. 1921 in Caldwell County to the late Joseph Edward Austin and Janie Carlton Austin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Reita Hampton Austin, five brothers, and two sisters.
He was a proud Veteran of the United States Arm, serving during WWII and worked in the furniture industry.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy Austin Earley and husband Howard of Asheville, NC, and one son, Jerry A. Austin and wife Shirley of Hudson, NC. He had seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Whitnel First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hedgecock and Rev. Stuart White officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Whitnel First Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Earley, Aaron Earley, Austin Earley, Chris Austin, TJ Austin, Kiko Magana and Danny Wyke.
Military Honors will be provided by the United States National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
