Lenoir—Katherine South Powell, 56, Lenoir passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.

Mrs. Powell was born September 9, 1961 in Caldwell County to the late Hubert South and Lula Clara Stallings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, CC and Camilla South, and maternal grandparents, Nelson and Mary Stallings.

Katherine was a very friendly person, who never met a stranger. She was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed helping her brother work on old cars and with construction projects. She was a joy to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers, Robert South and wife Connie of Hudson and Eric South and wife Melissa of Lenoir, sister, Donna Benge and husband Mike of Lenoir, nephews, Shane South, Cody South, Jeremy Benge, nieces, Brandy Gentry, Natalie South, Lauren South and Chelsea Pipes.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lee officiating. Burial will follow the service in East Hudson Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Benge, Dusty Gentry, Shane South, Cody South, Robert South, Eric South and Kaine South.

The family respectfully requests memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to East Hudson Baptist Church at 344 Mt. Herman Road, Hudson, NC.
