Rachel it's took me almost a year to grieve you leaving this earth.  You had many nieces  but you seem to favor me like I was your daughter.  Yet as youthful as you always were you were more like my big sister. As we went about all those years on trips Dr's visits hospital stays etc church and talking to way into the morning laughing  about a bird that would not stop  chirping and all the visits from my house to your house and to mama's you certainly was a big part of my life.  I MISS YOU SOOOO MUCH. The only comfort I have is to know you gave your all to life here and you are safe in God's arms now.. will always love you Aunt Rachel  and I did the best I could do for you the last years of your life..I know mama told me take care of  Rachel and I did my best....love Deborah

Dear Family, So sorry for your loss. I am Bertie & Herbert Foster's daughter, Audrey. 
There are many fond memories  of Rachel, and her family. I took my mother , Bertie Foster to Hardee's in Lenoir.  Those cousins had  a wonderful time reminiscing about events in their young lives, enjoying  life. I attended a play in Valdese,    Marie  was there. Good memories.

Rachel was a wonderful aunt. I loved to talk with her and to hear her tell about family events present and past. I liked to hear her laugh. I remember a Christmas at her house when her sisters and my father were there and I took a photo of them that I will always cherish. She was always kind, considerate and loving. 

I will cherish my memories through the years of my dear Aunt Rachel Smith. She has over 30 niece's and nephews that will remember her as a kind and sweet person.

Hudson--Rachel Hart Smith, 88, of Hudson passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Shaire Center of Lenoir, while surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Smith was born February 7, 1930 in Caldwell County to the late Robert Joseph Hart and Annie Jones Hart.

Rachel was a loving and dedicated wife and mother, she was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church and was employed by Blue Ridge Electric as a Customer Service Representative.

Her loving and dedicated son, Steven Smith of the home is left to cherish her memory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Smith, a daughter: Emily Lynn Smith, her brothers: Ballard and Jacob Hart, sisters; Marjorie Drumheller, Marie Pennell, Dana Roberts, Ruby Watson, Jewel Hatley and Violet Coonse.

A funeral service to honor the memory of Rachel will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Hudson United Methodist Church with Rev. Holly Adams officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Sardis Cemetery in Hudson.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church.
