John "Dink" Merritt

A celebration of life will be officiated by Rev. Butch Powell at Red Bank Baptist Church on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will be held after the service.

Dink was a loving husband, father, son, brother and Papa. He never met a stranger, and loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed many years of coaching Dixie Youth Baseball, youth football and basketball. Dink also enjoyed spending time with his wife of 54 years riding around the backroads with no destination in mind. He enjoyed playing golf until his health prevented it. Through the years, he made many enduring friendships and cared deeply for his family and friends. He remained faithful to his Lord and Savior until his final day.

Dink is survived by his loving wife, Linda; daughters, Angela Merritt-Fuentes (Manuel) of Raeford, NC and Tonya Williamson (John David) of Leesville, SC; granddaughters, Victoria Fuentes and Hailey Williamson; his sister-in-law, Shadie Merritt (Randy) and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; brother, “Buddy” Merritt and sisters, Reba Merritt and Joyce Hall.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at Lexington Oncology and Lexington Medical Center Extended Care for their care and compassion.
