Marion “Ben” Benton Staup, 71 of Lima passed away in his home, surrounded by his loving family 3:38 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Ben was born Friday, October 4, 1946 in Lima to Lawrence S. & Wilma E. (Carper) Staup and they preceded him in death. On May 31, 1978 he married Janis L. DeWitt and she survives him. Ben is also survived by a stepdaughter, Lori Painter Berens and her fiancé, Dan Albert of Reynoldsburg, two step grandchildren, Trey and Tatum and his brother, Philip E. Staup of Lima. He was preceded in death by his four-legged companion, Bernard. Ben had previously been employed for 29 years at BP/Vistron; and he retired from Allen Correctional Facility working as a Boiler Operator after 11 years of service. He was a 1964 graduate of Elida High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. Ben was known as a very caring person, he was a great artist, he loved the Blues, he was a quiet man, but large in stature and was liked by anyone who met him! Family and friends may call on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME 506 N. Cable Rd. Lima. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1275 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the LUPUS Foundation or to the Allen County Humane Society.
