Lydia Tabtab Deocampo, fondly called LY, was born on March 11, 1929 to Juan Tabtab and Natividad Novida Tabtab. She was married at the age of 32 to Edmundo "Ed" Deocampo on August 26, 1961. They were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011, five months before her husband was called to Heaven. They had four children - Natilou (spouse Rodrigo), Kathleen (spouse Luigi), Gemma, and John (partner Arlene); her grandchildren Adrienne, Jennifer, Christopher, Paolo, and Angelo; and her great-grandchildren Elliott, Cayden, Emmett, Casey, and Aaron Jr. She is also survived by 23 nieces & nephews, and more than 50 grand nieces and nephews, and 3 great-grand nieces and nephews who consider her more like a second Mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She has a remaining 97-year-old brother, Dominador Tabtab who lives in Manila. She was predeceased by her loving husband Edmundo Deocampo, parents Juan & Natividad, and siblings Silverio, Fred, Lolita, and Estela. Mama LY graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. She became a high school teacher and the youngest assistant high school principal. When we emigrated to the United States in March 1978, she pursued a career in credit card finance, but when she retired, she went back to her love of teaching, and continued her teaching career as a teacher's aide for Special Needs children at Galileo High School in San Francisco where she finally retired in 2010 at the age of 81. Mama LY had a great sense of humor. She was very thoughtful, generous, kind, unselfish, caring, and loving to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also had a passion for cooking and always cooked like she was cooking for a whole battalion. She had a green thumb. She loved raising orchids and used to make bonsai arrangements. Above all, she was very religious and prayed the rosary daily and prayed for everybody. She and our Dad, Ed were active members of their parish, St. John the Baptist in the Excelsior/Alemany District in San Francisco. She also had a dark side to her - she loved playing the slot machines! She and our Dad would organize bus trips to Reno and gather their church members to overnight trips to Reno every month! Mama LY's children planned to take her home from her care facility, but God had a better plan. He took her to a better home, His Home, where there is no more suffering and where she is able to walk and run freely and look over all her loved ones. She was called home on August 15, befitting on the Feast of our Lady of the Assumption. Mama LY will be sorely missed by everybody. Rest in Paradise, Mama LY. We love you so much... until we meet again.
