James E. Longan, 89, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019. James was born April 2, 1929 to William Ray and Eunice (Shoemaker) Longan at Dilworth, OK. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and an avid supporter of Oklahoma State Athletics. James served his country in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He taught Vocational Agriculture in Red Cloud, NE for 8 years, and continued his career with the United States Department of Agriculture retiring as the Chief of Business and Industry for the State of Nebraska. A proud Democrat, James was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks, and Eagles; he was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner, belonging to the Tehama Temple. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Longan of Lincoln, NE; children, John (Bitsy) Longan of Lincoln, NE; Jacquelyn Jenny of Lincoln, NE; Joni (Mark) Osborn of Roca, NE; and James C. Longan of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Jackson (Casey) Longan; Jacob (Jessica) Longan; Amelia Jenny; Caitlin Osborn and Celia Osborn; great-grandchildren, Taylor Longan and Luke Longan; his sister, Alberta Ropers of Stillwater, OK in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. His parents and 6 brothers preceded him in death. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Sesostris Shrine Center (1050 Saltillo RD) in Lincoln, NE. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Stillwater, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2025 E. River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55414.
