Nancy Jean Harner, 90, formerly of Lincoln, died March 23, 2019, in North Platte, Nebraska. Nancy was born October 30, 1928 to Eldon F. and Laura J. Covert in Great Bend, Kansas. Nancy grew up in Concordia and Beloit, Kansas, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946, and obtained her Bachelor in Education degree from Washburn University in 1950. Following graduation from Washburn, Nancy taught at Grant and Lundgren Grade Schools in Topeka. In 1953, she moved to Garden City, Kansas to teach at Alta Brown Grade School, where she met Rodney F Harner. They were married in Topeka, Kansas June 12, 1954. Nancy and Rod returned to Garden City as Rod began his career in the Soil Conservation Service and Nancy resumed teaching. Nancy was a caregiver her entire life, beginning with her baby and younger sister when their father passed away. Nancy then raised her children in Kansas, Michigan, and Nebraska as Rod’s career advanced over the years. Her caregiving continued with her seven grandchildren. Nancy transmitted her love of music, reading, cooking, games, crafts, and family to all she touched. Nancy is survived by her spouse, Rod; children, Kent, of Omaha, Nebraska, Brian, of Arlington, Virginia, and Ann (Steve) Wade of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jay (Jerri) Harner, Ryan (Beth) Harner, Andrew (Meaghan) Wade, Nathan (Jamie) Wade, Sarah (Sam) Sweley, Isabel Harner and Genevieve Harner; great grandchildren, Malayka, Kyler, Bode, Austin, Alex, Chloie, Jacob, and Kolton. She is also survived her beloved sisters, Carolyn Huffman and Kathy Maag, both of Topeka, Kansas. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held March 27, 2019, 10 am at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.
