Verla and Donald. Always looked forward to their visits to Nebraska. They were always so fun to see. Verla was such a pretty little lady and I remember her smile. When our dad Ted Reed was in the rest home in Aurora he always enjoyed their visits as they would stop and see him. I love these pictures of Verla.

I will always remember my Grandma Verla. “Grannie”. We would visit at least once a year to Prairie Island where she was the most hospitable host, making dinner and dessert, and laying out towels and washcloths labeled with our names in her bathroom. We would often have to refuse food more than just once. No one ever went hungry in her home. Almost every visit we would gather in the living room looking at photos of all the people and animals in her life as she would tell stories of each one. The joy on her face as she would recall memories of each was undeniable. She loved so many in her circle from family to friends to her animals. I will remember her always.

Aunt Verla and Uncle Donald's home was always a stop on our summer vacation. I remember her showing me how to properly make a bed....the print of the top sheet always needed to be printed side down so that when you got in bed you were sleeping between the pretty sides of the sheets. I also remember her listening to the radio for Donald's schedule. She would always take her glasses of when she would write it down and to this day I do the same thing. Aunt Verla was always a gracious host and made sure everything was just perfect.

I have so many memories of my Aunt Verla, one is how she took care of an injured pigeon (pige was what she named him) visiting on the prairie was always the highlight of our summer trip. She would make sure we had our favorite food ( mine were black olives) and verla would let me put them on all my fingers before I ate them, also how she would seat at the radio in the kitchen to see where Uncle Donald was. I will always cherish the wonderful and many memories on the prairie.
