Louis A. Stessl

LISBON FALLS: Louis Anthony Stessl, 90, of Lisbon Falls, ME and Chicago, IL peacefully passed away on the morning of Saturday March 31, 2018 at his daughter’s home with both of his loving daughters by his side. He was born in Chicago, Il on July 5, 1927 a son of the late Louis and Julia (Gruber) Stessl. He lived nearly his entire life in the City of Chicago. He was a graduate of Lane Technical High School. After high school, Louis attended Wilbur Wright Community College and enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country for several years. When he was discharged from the Army, he continued his education at the University of Illinois in Chicago where he would earn his Doctorate in Dental Surgery. He then served in the United States Air Force as a Dentist in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska . After his dental service in the Air Force, he returned to Chicago to start his own practice. During that time he met the love of his life, Janet, at a 400 Ski Club Christmas party. They were married on August, 12, 1958 and started a family together. Louis will always be remembered for his love of music and being a skillful musician who played many different instruments including zither, guitar and upright bass. He was a member of the Chicago Zither Club, President of the UIC College of Dentistry Alumni Association and a member of the Steirer Club and National Ski Patrol. His hobbies included travel as well as skiing, camping, sports, gardening and handcrafting custom jewelry for his wife. He was always learning new things with a love for books and reading. He enjoyed poker and cigars with his friends. He almost never wore a necktie but preferred to wear a bolo tie. He was a very active and outgoing man, a caring friend, brother, husband and father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his two loving daughters; Lisa Hans and her husband Jon of Breckenridge, CO and Connie Stessl and her husband Fern Larochelle of Lisbon Falls, ME. He also leaves behind his sister, Josie Sennet of Chicago, IL, his brother, Tom Stessl of Ocala, FL, his five grandchildren; Paul and Ian Hans, Valerie Edwards, Lorelei Vella and Sabrina Mendoza-Quispe as well as his three great-grandchildren; James and Lauren Vella and Matthew Edwards and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Janet in 2017. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.crosmanfuneralhome.com and a service and interment will be held at a later date this summer.
