Vernon Futterman died on August 18, 2019 fourteen days shy of his 95th birthday. As a WWII decorated war hero and purple heart recipient, he was one of the last survivors of WWII Yankee Division. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 2, 1924 and a graduate of James Madison High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and New York University School of Law. He worked in the textile industry for over 50 years, initially in sales and ultimately, he owned his own company. As part of his textile work, he traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He served as an officer and was an active, longstanding member of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel. Throughout his life, he was an avid golfer and tennis player and he enjoyed reading, particularly history. Most important, he cared deeply for his family, particularly his wife, sons and daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Bobbe (Gurland); his sons and their families, Andrew Futterman and Amy Wolfson and Ned and Jeanine Futterman and their grandchildren, Noah, Benjamin, and Abigail. He is also survived by his sister, Millicent Auerbach, and his brother, Nachman Futterman.
