Dorothy was an excellent cook and party planner. As a young mother she planned neighborhood talent shows. She enjoyed many activities, such as, playing cards, playing the piano and singing to her kids. Dorothy was very active in the Catholic Church and taught Catechism for approximately 5 years. Another talent and enjoyment she had was sewing clothes for her children and crafting (i.e. crochet and knitting).
She coordinated numerous activities and trips for her 8 children, particularly ice skating, roller skating trips to the Dearborn Youth Center and summer vacations to Camp Dearborn. She was protective, supportive and encouraging to her children to make the most of their talents. When her children got a little older, she took up bowling and enjoyed playing bingo. Years later, Dorothy worked hard to become an Airline Reservation Agent at Delta Airlines where she received many commendations and customer service awards.
Dorothy is survived by; daughter Barbara Carson; daughter Carolyn Gola; son Steven Plante; son Thomas Plante; daughter Joanne Plante; son Glen Plante; daughter Sharon Arnold; and daughter Kathleen Rushing; sister Gloria Schipano and sister Diane Smith; grandchildren Lee Carson, Becky Plante, Jeffrey Plante, Thomas Plante, Matthew Plante,Taylor Plante, Tyler Plante, Andrew O'Malley, Christina O'Malley, Joseph Rushing, Timothy Rushing, Jessica Rushing and great grandchild Madison Plante.
Dorothy was preceded in death by; father Robert Vincent McGrath and mother Cecilia C. McGrath; brother Robert McGrath.
A memorial visitation for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. A memorial in state will occur Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 10:00 AM with a memorial service at 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
