February 5, 1936 – August 30, 2023
Jerry Lee Ahnstedt was finally reunited with the love of his life, Shirley, on August 30, 2023. Jerry was born to Harry and Esther (Smith) Ahnstedt on February 5, 1936, in Haxtun, Colorado. He was a 1956 graduate of Holyoke High School and later married Shirley E. Glover on September 30, 1959.
Jerry was an All-American athlete in track and football, and he earned collegiate degrees from Trinidad Junior College and Colorado State University. While at CSU, Jerry was a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Jerry honorably served our nation as a Navy aviator, fulfilling tours of duty in Pensacola, Florida; Corpus Christi, Texas; Coronado, California; and the Philippine Islands from 1959 to 1963. By profession, Jerry taught junior high algebra for 28 years at both Longmont Junior High and Long’s Peak Junior High. He also served as a track and wrestling coach.
Jerry worked many years as a driver for Western Paving and was a longtime member of the Teamsters. For many years Jerry owned and operated a snowplow business that served the needs of many local businesses, neighbors, and friends.
In 1978, Jerry set out to realize his dream of building a family cabin in Big Elk Meadows. In time, his labor of love was realized, and the cabin has served as a family gathering place that has blessed his children and grandchildren for many years.
Jerry was an avid card player and was known to prominently display his wins by posting score sheets around the house. He was an exceptional woodworker who created numerous pieces of furniture for family and friends. Jerry was also the originator of the Annual Jerry Ahnstedt Surprise Birthday Party that attracted a cabin filled with family, friends and fun each year.
Jerry was an active, longtime member of Longmont First United Methodist Church. He is survived by three daughters: Sarah Page (Jamie); Kathy Webb (Matt); and Mary Berwyn (Matt). He was a beloved Grandpa of eight: Angela Page (Josh), Andrew Page, Travis Webb (Alysha), Curtis Webb, Logan Webb, Lucy Berwyn, Lauren Pezel, and Grant Pezel. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (2015) and one daughter, Teresa Mashburn (2005).
