McLean (Mac) Kilpatrick passed away peacefully on April 11, 2021 at his home in Erie, CO. He was born on September 9, 1938 in Marianna, Arkansas to the late Earl and Ruth Kilpatrick. His children grew up hearing many stories of his days on the farm and growing up in southeast Arkansas.
Mac graduated from T. A. Futrall High School in Marianna in 1956. After graduation, he attended Arkansas State College, transferring to the University of Arkansas to complete a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1961. He began his first job in Sterlington, Louisiana where he met the love of his life, Nell, who he married in May 1962 in West Monroe, LA. Mac advanced in his career starting as chemical process engineer to finishing when he retired in 1994, as a management executive directing the production of two pharmaceutical plants. Through multiple moves the family enjoyed seeing new parts of the country and making new friends and memories together.
Mac was known for his leadership in his church as an Elder, his commitment to his community as president of Kiwanis Club of Boulder and his dedication to children, serving on the board of Mountain States Children’s Home.
He counted himself especially blessed with a loving and supportive wife and family. Mac enjoyed traveling and taking wonderful scenic photography, playing golf, painting, reading Louis L’Amour books, and spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Mac leaves behind two children, John Kilpatrick (Debbie) of Helena, MT and Julie Shade (Gregg) of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Josh Kilpatrick (Elizabeth), Alyssa McEvoy (Arthur), Andrew Kilpatrick and Brooke Roberts (Bryan), a great grandson George Kilpatrick, and a number of nieces, nephews and close friends. Mac was preceded in death by his devoted wife and helpmate Nell Kilpatrick, his parents, three brothers, and a sister.
The family would like to thank his Longmont Church of Christ family and friends for their loving support through this time. Your cards, calls, visits, and meals and prayers meant so much. The family also wants to thank BrightStar Care of Boulder-Broomfield and their compassionate CNAs, who became like a part of the family in the last days, and TRU Community Care hospice for their guidance and support.
A memorial service will be held for Mac on April 24, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Longmont Church of Christ. His ashes will be interred in Foothills Garden of Memory just north of Longmont.
