The world lost a truly remarkable woman with the passing of Marie-Ann Del Rosario, on July 16, 2019. Known to family and her close friends as “Annie,” she always greeted her loved ones with a gentle smile and kind spirit.
For those who never had the opportunity to meet this wonderful individual, her story started on March 28, 1948 in the Philippines where she was born into a loving family with parents Bonifacio Del Rosario and Joyce Dangilan and older brother, Melquiades Sol.
Her passion for life was fueled by her love of travel. Eager to learn about the world, she visited many countries as a young woman. After graduating from The Philippine Women's University in Manila, Philippines in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she took a leap of faith and made the journey across the globe to Montreal, Quebec to work as a nurse at Santa-Cabrini hospital in Saint-Leonard.
While her travels took her to many places around the world, she ultimately chose to spend her life with the man who lived just down the street from the home where she grew up, Ambrosio Leonardo Alzate. They married on June 12, 1976 and settled in Canada where they started on a new set of adventures raising 2 daughters, Marie Joyce and Miriam Rose.
Marie-Ann faced some very difficult challenges over the years, but she always endured. During her valiant battle with lymphoma cancer in the final months of her life, she found the faith and courage to face her fears and in doing so inspired those around her to find their own inner strength to deal with her passing.
Marie-Ann will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Joyce (Neil) and Miriam (Charles), her grandchildren, Lea, Quinn, Bo Ryan and Kai along with her many other relatives and friends.
Please join them to commemorate her life at La Maison Darche, Dignity Memorial, located at 505, Curé-Poirier Ouest blvd. in Longueuil (J4J 2H5), on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 2pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 10pm, and Friday, July 26, 2019 from 10am to 1pm.
The funeral service will take place on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 2 pm at St-Kevin’s Parish (5600, Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, H3T 1Z1) with refreshments served in the church hall immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family has kindly requested guests to bring a photo of themselves with Marie-Ann, or a handwritten note describing a fond memory that they want to share of her. These mementos will be used by the family to continue to tell Annie’s story.
