Margot Sarah Hailey

Margot Sarah Hailey was an irrepressible spirit. She was unique and left an indelible mark on everyone she met, whether it was her British accent, smile, warmth, laugh, directness, generosity or style, she was memorable.

She capitalized on her voice by working as a receptionist for many years. A front office gal, she was the first person one interacted with when they walked into an office. Her bosses were often recipients of multiple, positive comments about her personality. As the narrator for the Beverly Hills Trolley, my Mum engaged with local tourists and world travelers, from all walks of life. She loved to boast about how snapshots of her, taken by her passengers, were being seen all over the world.

We all know she had style. She loved to dress herself. She would spend a long time going through her extensive wardrobe to compose outfits. It was artistry in motion as she pulled outfits together and coordinated colors. I don’t think there was ever a time she didn’t receive compliments about how she looked. That she also knew how to sew, and created one-of-a-kind creations, only gave flair to her amazing style topped by her many, varied hats that became her fashion signature.

I was raised on home cooked meals. My Mum was a talented cook who could “whip up” something from her imagination that tasted delicious. She was always experimenting in the kitchen. It’s amusing to me that we have recipe books. She might pick a recipe, but invariably deviate from it to create something different. Her famous booze cakes, many of you have enjoyed, sprang from her “play time” in the kitchen.

So many words spring to mind when I think about the person my Mum was – salty ‘n’ sweet, fun-loving, courageous, determined, strong-minded, strong-willed, a defender. She was a great parent. She instilled in me the confidence to be and to like who I am. She liked herself and would often say, “I am my own best company.” She raised individualism to a high art.

I take great comfort in the belief that those of you who knew my Mum will remember her lovingly. I know that she can rest peacefully knowing that her legacy of love has extended to me. I am so grateful to all of you who have given me your love and support.

I recognize that I am who I am because of the person my Mum was to me in my life. It has been my honor to be the daughter of Margot Sarah Hailey.

Love you, Mum,

Your daughter, Margot Freedom Hailey

Margot: Your mother and you were an integral part of the Clark family on Mount Olympus. The August family pool-party gatherings would not have been the same without the two of you (and mama's rum cakes). Thank you also for being such a friend and support for brother Tom in his last years. The two of you brought a ray of light into a dark time for all of us.

Much love always,

James Clark

What a touching tribute to your mother. I had the privilege of spending time with her, and enjoying one of her BH tours. But for those who never met her, your tribute paints a beautiful picture of a life well lived. She couldn't have asked for a better daughter!

Dear Margot, I'm so sorry for your loss.
I met Margot many years ago at an acting class in West hollywood and I was instantly drawn to her.
Who could resist that infectious smile and wonderful accent.
I loved her sincerity, kindness and her love for life, which was not always easy.
I hope to meet her again next time around until then I say good bye to a fabulous Lady.
Much Love ❤ Christina
