Mary Ann Walsh passed away peacefully
at her home in Westwood on June 7th, 2014.
Mary Ann was born and raised in Detroit. Her mother came by ship to the US ,
from Poland in 1919, right after World War I . She graduated from Michigan State
University in 1949 with a degree in education, and moved to
Los Angeles shortly after.
In July of 1954, she married Richard, her loving husband
for the next 44 years.
Mary Ann loved learning, and she had a passion and love for children. She taught
elementary school for 34 years, and she was a substitute teacher
at St. Paul the Apostle School for several years. She was a big hearted
supporter of the Catholic Church and Catholic Education.
Mary Ann was a devoted mother for her four children and husband.
She was the consummate team player in life, and she always reached
out to help other people.
Mary Ann loved sports, and was a avid fan of Duke basketball
and Coach K. Later in life, she was a docent at LACMA, where she gave
tours to school children for 15 years.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by Richard, her loving husband of
44 years. She is survived by daughter Julie Ann, sons Richard, Patrick,
and Thomas; grandsons Brandon and Sean, and daughter-in-law Jill.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in
Westwood at 1 pm on Wednesday June 11th. Visitation will be at Pierce Brothers
Mortuary in Westwood, Tuesday June 12th, from 4pm to 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to USC Norris
