Charles Oligee

Dad was born during the early years of the Great Depression and was the son of Louis and Elizabeth Oligee. He had two older brothers, Frank and James. His father had an extraordinary work ethic and passed that on to his sons. Given the times, they worked hard but also had a strong sense of family. He loved the outdoors and grew up hunting and running trot lines in the local river with his dad and brothers.
He was a great mechanic and loved working on cars. He always carried a massive toolbox in the car and the toolbox was given priority space. We would leave out the luggage if it came down to a choice between that and the toolbox.
By fortune, he worked during high school for a gentleman named George Bunker as a handyman, yard man, mechanic and chauffeur. Dad often told the story of how Mr. Bunker approached him one day and asked what his plans were for a career. Dad told Mr. Bunker that he loved working on cars and had always dreamed of owning his own service station. Mr. Bunker told Dad how much he admired his work ethic and saw a potential in Dad and urged him to consider going to college. When Dad said there was no way he could afford it, Mr. Bunker offered to help him. Dad graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later earned a MBA from Xavier University. He taught at the University of Cincinnati for several years before beginning a 30-year career with General Electric. Dad was the first of his family to ever attend college.
Dad met and married Loretta Mae Jones in 1956. Loretta was a Registered Nurse working in Cincinnati. His children continued the engineering and medical legacy with his daughter becoming a Registered Dietician and his two sons graduating with Engineering degrees. That legacy continued with his grandchildren, with 5 engineers, a doctor, and nurse-practitioner. He took enormous pride in that legacy and often thought of Mr. Bunker and the legacy of his generosity.

Charlie was one of the most thoughtful people I have had the pleasure to know. A good Christian man who always had a kind word. Our brief conversations after church services were always enjoyable. We played golf together a number of times and he was fun to be around. He had a nice sense of humor and a calm demeanor. He will be missed.
