He went to his Heavenly Father on April 10, 2021. Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Marjorie Watson Firquin, also of Adair County and three sons, Edwin (Wanda), Rodney (Brenda) and Kevin (Jennifer). Also surviving family members include three grandchildren, Zachary Firquin, Kellye Booker (Antonio), and Seth Firquin (Sarah); two step-grandchildren, Troy Corrigan (Shannon) and Shawn Corrigan (Rebecca); four great-grandchildren Rylee and Rubee Firquin and Knox and Collins Firquin; step-great grandchildren Shane, Madison, Kinlee, Kendahl, and Kindrick Corrigan, and brother, Jimmy
( Phyllis) of Adair County.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Elva England (Joe), Ruby Bell (Simmons), Jewell Kerns (Olen), and by brother Joe Allen (Olzetta) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from the Tri-City Barber College in 1948. He began his career at the old Veterans Hospital then opening the M and F Barber Shop in Buechel. He then opened Guy’s Barber Shop in the Pleasure Ridge Park area of Louisville, which he operated for over 50 years. Guy enjoyed his profession because he enjoyed his customers, as they did him.
Guy was a member of Okolona Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, coach, choir member and on the Deacon Board. Guy’s faith was shown in the manner in which he lived his life and the example he set for his family.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 15 at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery on Preston Highway in Louisville, KY from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m with the funeral immediately following in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Guy’s name to Okolona Baptist Church, 9301 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY 40229.
