Jerry Lee Newell, Husband, Father, and Papaw passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the age of 73. He was a graduate of Morehead State University and served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1971. Jerry retired in 2003 as Senior Sales Executive with Standard Register. He qualified for the prestigious 100 Plus Club Award for 75% of his career.

Jerry found his passion for trap shooting early in his life. After retirement, he loved to travel with his buddies to competitively shoot. Most of all he loved spending time and working on his farm

Jerry married his childhood sweetheart, Cheri Ann (Goldsberry) Newell and they shared 53 years together. He is also survived by his son, Tony Newell (Melissa) their daughters Cleis and Chloe of Louisville and daughter Krista (Newell) Allen (Bradley) and their daughters Kassidy and Kourtney of Palmer, Alaska; Brother James Newell (Shirley), and nieces Jennifer Guthrie and Sara DeSmidt. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Newell; step-mother, Pat Newell; and his mother, Mindy Shryock. Honoring Jerry’s wishes, there will be a memorial service with immediate family in the future. Our sweet Molly was Jerry’s comfort companion in his last years. I don’t even know what to say except I’m so sad to hear this. I hadn’t seen Jerry in a long time but I worked for him for over 10 years at Standard Register. Even though he was my boss we were always just “buds”. He taught me so much about the business world because he was the best..I was always so proud to say that I worked for him. We have lots of great memories to laugh about; when my boys were little, our cookouts, and the jokes we’d play on people. We’ d go to his farm and one time Alex, my oldest, got his head stuck in the fence that he was building at the time.. he was always so good with all 3 of my boys and they loved him... In fact he’s my youngest son Clint’s godfather. Rest peacefully my friend.
Love and prayers, Patti Gravelle

Jerry, Jerry, JERRY...How could you leave us so soon?! !
You always did like to be early and well prepared for all the fun that would be in store when we got together. You, Cheri, Tony, "Krista," Buffy and the Swamp Fox make up some of our FAVORITE family trip memories...thank you for teaching us how to relax & have fun. Our boys thought you were so "cool!"
You were Jim's favorite guy friend and you were both can-do men who could make or repair anything.
Cheri seemed to like spoiling "you," but that was probably because you adored her and it showed! You were the perfect couple! !
Heaven will be a little more organized with you there. Hold a couple of seats for us cuz we want to be near you.
Thanks for the memories! Love from All The Z's

Deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers to the Newell family. We were very saddened to hear the news of his passing. I have numerous fond memories of Jerry, many of which are laced with antics during our shared family vacations camping, rafting, etc. He was a Great partner to attend Louisville Cardinal games with too! Jerry was one of the coolest Dad’s our family hung out with... bunches of fun and I’m glad to have known him.

Jerry was and will always be one of my favorite people. A wise and true gentleman. As a longtime neighbor we shared many cold MGD’s together. I introduced him and Cheri to boiled crawfish and he taught me about Kentucky Bourbon. I will miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers go out to Cheri and the whole family. Love you guys.

I always told Jerry he was my FAVORITE cousin whom I loved very much. When my Husband, Rich, Jerry’s cousin on his Mothers side, got together with Jerry you could count on hearing their stories of visits when the city cousin would visit his country cousin in Good Hope every Summer. Jerry and Rich had great stories about their childhood antics on their Grandparents farm. We would roll with laughter hearing their stories. We frequently traveled from Pennsylvania to Kentucky to visit, sometimes to help mend fences on the farm or travel to local Bourbon distilleries to transform my Husband into a Bourbon connoisseur. We had the privilege of sharing holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter with Jerry, Cheri and their children and Grandchildren . Jerry loved to kid around with Rich, play golf with him and always take trips down memory lane with hilarious stories that made all of us howl with laughter. We had the pleasure of sharing 7 separate vacations with Cheri and Jerry to places such as Arizona to play golf (twice), New England, the Masters Golf Tournament, 2 trips to the mountains of North Carolina, an awesome trip to Washington DC, and a visit to the Valhalla Golf Tournament In Kentucky. Jerry was a loving, generous, gracious host to us when we visited and confided to Rich that one time when Rich was leaving to go home after spending a long Summer vacation in Good Hope when they were young kids, Jerry went behind the barn and cried because he was going to miss his cousin. Jerry and Rich had a wonderful and close relationship from early childhood through the years until presently. We helped Jerry celebrate his last Birthday with a visit that turned out to be the very last time we would share his company. We are devastated and saddened beyond belief that he has passed. We will miss him every day but will remember him for the loving, funny, thoughtful, great story teller, good golfer, gracious host and loving cousin he was to us. Cheri, we love you so much.
