Joseph S. Whitehouse SR

December 31, 1918October 28, 2013

Whitehouse, Joseph S. Sr., 94, of Louisville, passed away at Baptist East Hospital on October 28th, 2013, after a short illness.

Joe was a retired business owner and a WWII Army veteran. During his Army service he was in the 138th Field Artillery Battalion and served in Italy, North Africa and France and was awarded five bronze stars.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Evelyn, who passed away in 2000. Joe is survived by a daughter, Patricia Hatton, a son, Joseph Jr. (Cookie), one grandchild, three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

During Joe’s later years he continued living alone and had neighbors who watched over him and cared for him as if he were their own father. Were it not for the kindness and attention from neighbors he would not have been able to remain in his own home until the end.

Per Joe’s wishes, there is no visitation and he will be cremated. Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village has the honor of serving the family.

Sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He was a good friend of mine when I worked at Louisville Motors Ford. He came in the dealership often. He gave me a set of jumper cables that I still use. When I use them I think of Joe. May God bless The family.

I live next door to Joe and am sorry to learn of his passing. I lost my husband nearly two years ago, and Joe helped me dispose of my husband's yard stuff. I will miss the sound of his leaf blower which he used every day to keep his garage and driveway always clean. God bless him and his family.

My father was John Augustine. He worked for Joe for many, many years and they were also friends. I also worked for D&W for 7 years 21/2 at the warehouse and 3 1/2 at the plant. Joe was always good to me, and was a good person to work for. I hope he has peace in his afterlife and that my dad, who passed around the time of Joe's wife, are sharing old times together now. My deepest sympathy to his family.
