If I had to pick one person to be my hero it would be my Grandpa, Thomas M Smith. I can honestly say that he is the hardest working man I ever knew. My Grandpa worked his whole life to make sure his family was well taken care of. He always wanted his children and grandchildren to have more then he did growing up. I love you Grandpa, I will never forget the role you played in my life. You were one of a kind. Thank you for loving Grandma and taking such good care of her. Together you started a great family that will miss you dearly. You lived a wonderful life. I will always remember everything you taught me and work my hardest for you. I love you Grandpa.

Growing up around my Grandpa and Grandma has influenced my life in countless ways that could never be replaced. My grandpa was a man of few words, but you always knew those few words were important and meant something to him. My earliest memories of my grandpa were sitting in his office watching him play the stock market while I played with my American Girl dolls. I can honestly say Tom Smith was the smartest man I knew and my inspiration to pursue a business degree in college. I wish he could be here today to see how many lives he has touched, but I know he is looking down on us from heaven and in our hearts forever.

I love you Grandpa,

Condolences to all of Tom's family. Tom was a very decent man, could tell a good story and would laugh heartily. As a young staffer at Mead many years ago, he always treated us kindly and cared about our well being. Rest in peace, Tom.

From Day One that I have been friends with Jennifer (Smith) Grimes, I was welcomed with open arms into Tom and Marguerite's home. Our friendship has spanned 35 years and in all that time I have considered the Smith family as part of my family. Since they really had no choice but to accept me since Jennifer and I were inseperable growing up, I came to love them with all my heart. I will always remember Tom's smile, his joy in gardening, his readiness to engage in a meaningful conversation, and his enduring devotion to Marguerite. He was especially proud of his daughters and grandchildren, and me, his "niece". He will be greatly missed.

Dear Denise, Stephanie & Jennifer: I'm saddened by the passing of your father. The loss also touches me uniquely as this man was my Godfather- my one and only Uncle Tom. Please take care of your mom and take care of yourselves.

For all the fond memories of an Irish family growing up on Forest Avenue in Dayton, a life fully lived, and a legacy of proud descendants, I offer this Irish Blessing to my Godfather:

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

My Grandpa had a devotion to his family that was beyond any ordinary man's capabilities. He came from nothing and worked in order to support my wonderful grandma, my mom, and my aunt. They were his world and he was their's. As his grandson, my cousins and I saw this devotion everyday. He wanted the best for all of us and would do anything to make sure that we were okay. Even in his worst of times, he tried his hardest to put a big smile on his face and say his own form of "I love you". I will never forget my grandpa's smile, his love for his family, and most of all his devotion to us. I know that he is in a better place knowing that we can take it from here. I will forever be his little Rat Fink Bum.
