Fern Awtrey, 93, of Lubbock went to see Jesus on April 16, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas. I. E. and Olia Graham gave birth to Fern on August 10, 1924 in Floydada, Texas. She graduated from Muleshoe High, then married Deon Awtrey, September 25, 1943, which created a very loving golden bond between Fern “Angel” and Deon. A devoted wife and mother that loved to sew and cook, aka “The Cookie Lady”, loved by many. A Baptist that knew Jesus Christ as her Savior, loved to tell stories about rounding up them old cantankerous milk cows with her pony, then on top of that, riding to school in a Model T Ford, many more stories of her beautiful life were shared.
Memorial services will be at 10 AM, Thursday at Resthaven Chapel. Travis Pursell of Faith Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Deon, parents and granddaughter Alice Black. Survivors include a son, Ron and wife Linda of DuBois, Pennsylvania; daughter Sharen Black and husband Keith of Lubbock; kids that called her Grandmother or Granny Fern: Marc Awtrey and wife Allison, Brandon Awtrey, Aaron Black and wife Angela; 3 great grandchildren, Abigail and Arionna Black, Alyssa Awtrey.
