Mary Lou was born on January 2, 1931 to Lee Roy and Hattie (Hunter) Cox in Lubbock County near New Deal (then known as Monroe), Texas, where they lived until moving to Lubbock when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1948 before attending Draughon’s Business College. In 1949, she was employed by the Piggly Wiggly grocery franchise in their business office, where she worked for 16 years. She married James M. McDonald that same year. They had two children, Melva Lynn in 1952 and Loy Dean in 1954. James passed in 1955 at the age of 26. Mary Lou married Charles G. Harvey in October 1956. Charla Rhea was born in 1958. Charles passed in 1973 at the age of 48. Mary Lou married Jack T. Peddy on August 12, 1978.
Beginning in December 1967, she worked 25 years as bookkeeper for the Sport Center, later named Cardinal’s Sport Center, retiring in January 1993. She joined Broadview Baptist Church with Jack soon after their marriage, and considered the worship and many wonderful friends and activities there as special blessings in their lives. Jack and Mary Lou enjoyed several years of travel after retiring, creating special memories together. Other cherished memories are the many Peddy reunions, the Loy McDonald ‘branch’ reunion at Tenkiller Lake, and the Cox reunion in Denver. She loved her immediate family: Mom, Dad, brothers Andy H. Cox (RG) and William P. (Bill) Cox (Doris), all now deceased, and their extended families. Jack’s family was also a blessing in her life.
She is survived by: husband, Jack T. Peddy, Sr.; one son, Loy D. McDonald (Cissy); two daughters: Melva L. (McDonald) Patrick and Charla R. (Harvey) Edwards (Dan); one stepson: Jack T. Peddy, Jr. (Lisa); grandchildren: Brad Patrick (Diane) (always loving and helpful with their caregiving), Jeremy McDonald, Tracey (McDonald) Mullins (Mike), Zach Akers, Erin Peddy, and Payton Peddy; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins from both the Cox and Peddy families.
Mary Lou anticipated her ‘forever reunion’, Sunday, January 13, 2019, in Heaven with the loved ones who preceded her, and looked forward to sharing a hug with Jesus.
