Nelda Lou Kimes passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at the age of 80 in her home surrounded by family. She was born weighing 2 pounds 13 ounces on May 27, 1939 in Plainview, Texas to James Ray and Mary Elizabeth (Hackler) Wilson. From birth on, her tenacity and zeal for life was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Nelda graduated from Lubbock High School. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Louis Charles Kimes in the Reese Air Force Base Chapel on October 16, 1958.
Nelda retired from Covenant/Methodist Hospital in 2004 after 23 years of service as a PBX operator. Prior to Methodist Hospital, she cooked and served home-style meals to the students of Wester Elementary School. Nelda was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In her younger years, she developed many friendships being active in Catholic Daughters and the Women’s Group. Nelda delighted in spending time with her family and friends. Known by many as “Mema”, she especially loved family gatherings where she could be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nelda is survived by Louis, her husband of 61 years, of Lubbock, TX; three daughters: Gwen (Roger) Demers of San Antonio, TX, Theresa (Johnny) Baldivia of Lubbock, TX and Mary Lou (Donny) Robinson of Dickens, TX; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend George Roney at Resthaven Memorial Park.
