Services for Robert Grant Mitchell, 79, of Zavalla, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Lakewood Baptist Church, with Bro. Joel Hitchcock and Bro. Blake Powers officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Mitchell was born April 27, 1938 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Agnes (Storey) and Ralph Mitchell. He passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 in a Lufkin hospice facility. Mr. Mitchell was a loving husband, father, and Paw-Paw. He was retired from Lufkin Industries following 41 years of service and enjoyed metal working. Mr. Mitchell was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to share his catch with those around him. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Doris Mitchell of Zavalla; daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Jim Stacy of Corsicana and Sylvia and Robert Dhone of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jacob Stacy, Clayton Stacy, Ashley Hooks and Amanda Dhone; great-grandchildren, Caden Cavazos and Hadley Hooks; brother, David Mitchell; and a number of nieces, nephews; other family members, and friends. Pallbearers will be Jerry Stigler, Jacob Stacy, Todd Montgomery, Jim Streater, Jack Dickey, Jimmy Borel and Steve Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be David Allen Mitchell. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
