Born in Lynchburg, June 28, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Edward Lewis Ashwell and Dorothy Mae Deaner Ashwell. She was a former employee of both Craddock Terry Shoe Corp. and the Pettyjohn Shoe Company and was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Lynchburg South Women of the Moose.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Martha M. Ashwell.
She is survived by her husband, Robert N. Mayberry of Rustuburg; two sons, Tracy L. Goding of New Bern, NC and Steven W. Goding of Charlotte, NC; one step-daughter, Sharon K. Mayberry of Madison Heights; four brothers, Allen L. Ashwell and his wife Betty of Lynchburg, Roger L. Ashwell of Alexandia, Dennis N. Ashwell and his wife Brenda of Rustburg and Phillip W. Ashwell and his wife Laverne of Rustburg; a very special cousin and caregiver, Jean Saunders; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Mike Dodson, Jr. officiating.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of Centra Hospice for the wonderful care they provided during Rebecca’s illness.
