Thurmond Leslie Baisden, 70, of Evington, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Salem VA Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Marie Blankenship Baisden.

Born on December 18, 1948 in Logan, WV, he was the son of the late Thurmond Leslie Baisden and the late Effie Marcum Baisden. Thurmond served our country in the United States Marines and retired from Ross Laboratories. Thurmond enjoyed fishing and mowing grass. He was a member of Global Missions Church at Lynchburg.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Hall.

In addition to his wife, Marie Baisden, Thurmond is survived by his siblings, Jean Wheatley and husband Lee, Glenna Hurt, Darlene Marcum and husband Carl, Tammy Bosiger and husband Randy, Kay Blankinship and husband Emmitt, Donna Bishop, Mike Baisden and wife Lois, John Baisden and wife Mary, Leslie “Bugg” Baisden, and David Baisden; special nephew, Joseph Baisden and wife Chirlene along with their children, Jason, Joseph Jr., and Dagon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held 6 pm on Monday, August 12, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 5 pm. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.

Thurmond was a good friend and I never heard him raise his voice to anyone. I saw him a few years ago and he hadn't seen me in 10 years but he knew who I was and told me he was having some health issues but with it all said, he was still smiling. That's what I remember most about him; Smiling and Laughing! God Bless the Family!

I remember spending so much time with Okey and Marie when I was a young girl. Especially at that house down town on the hill. He always had a good heart and loved his family especially his wife Marie.. I wish I could be there for the service , but know my heart will be with you Marie love you .

I don't remember the first time Okey picked on me, I'm sure I was probably still in the hospital right after birth! I love you Ok more than I could ever express, you meant more to me and my family than I can say, you will continue to be loved, and missed until we meet again! Just so y'all know I was the oldest niece to Ok and Re and per Ok the meanest!!
