LYNN – Dorothy L. “Dot” (Jones) Mowatt, 93, of Lynn, formerly of Saugus, passed away on Tuesday, June 18th at the Abbott House in Lynn. Dorothy was the devoted wife of the late Paul R. Mowatt with whom she shared over 35 years of marriage.
Born in Saugus, she was the daughter of the late Chester C. and Jane E. (Howard) Jones. Mrs. Mowatt was a 1944 graduate of Saugus High School. She first worked as a portrait photographer locally. During World War II she was employed at General Electric Riverworks. She then held sales positions in private business, including real estate. She worked as a real estate agent on the 300 Lynn Shore Drive project.
She was a member of the International Toastmistress Club, North Shore Branch, and served as Treasurer and President. She was also a member of the Social Justice Group of the Sacred Heart Church and the Sacred Heart Tree of Life Food Pantry where she served as Treasurer.
Her involvement in other social programs ranged from service in the Wick Program and Project Bread to animal protection groups. She was an avid activist for such programs as PETA, MSPCA, The Farm Sanctuary, etc.
She retired at Kings Lynne in West Lynn where she enjoyed all the social activities, especially her bountiful garden.
Dot was the sister of the late Lawrence Jones and Edna Gerardi; the sister-in law of June Jones, Richard Gerardi and the late Evelyn Jones; the aunt of several nieces and nephews including, Paul Mowatt, Douglas Jones, Carole Farris, Nancy Walsh, Mary Jane Menard , Joyce Parsons, Jodi Gerardi, Paula Pellino, Patricia DeMars, Diane Jones, Donna Magnani and David and Kaye McAleenan; and the cousin of Shana Ross and Sr. Nancy Casey. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Tuesday, June 25th, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Boston St., Lynn. Burial will follow at Riverside, Cemetery, Saugus.
