LYNN - Norman R. “Bill” Harrie, age 85, of Lynn, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Lahey Clinic, Burlington after a short illness. Bill was the devoted husband of Patricia (Steeves) Harrie with whom he shared over 62 years of marriage.
Bill was born in Reading, the son of the late Robert and Eva (Clements) Harrie. Bill served as a Corporal in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and saw combat, including during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. He worked as a machine operator at Bilt Rite Rubber in Chelsea for over 35 years prior to his retirement in 1999.
Bill was the loving father of Patricia Meredith and her companion, Theodore Broderick of Newburyport, Theresa Traskos and her husband, Andrew of Lynn, Julie Harrie-Casey of Texas, and Steven Harrie and his wife, Lynda of Lynn; the cherished grandfather of Melissa, Meaghan, Andrew, Sara, Matthew, Erin, Douglas, Amanda, Samantha, Kaine, Steven and Brelyn; the adoring great-grandfather of 15 great-grandchildren; the dear brother of Nina Demars of North Carolna, Robert Harrie and his wife, Jean of Utah, Phyllis Katsakiores of New Hampshire and his late twin, Norma Fraser and the late Roberta Kasabuski; and the beloved uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Bill was a fitness enthusiast and spent at least 3 days a week working out at LA Fitness in Saugus. He was an avid bowler and bowled in in several leagues over the years with his wife, Pat including at the former Lucky Strike Lanes in Lynn. He enjoyed yardwork and gardening as well as birdwatching while he tended to his yard. He was an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed deep sea fishing. He traveled extensively with his wife and especially delighted in their trips to Paris and to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. Most of all, though, he enjoyed traveling to his camp in Pittsfield, NH and loved spending time there with his entire family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 20th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn. His funeral will be held on Friday, June 21st from the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Lynn. Burial will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference at Holy Family Church, 26 Bessom St., Lynn, MA 01902.
