Phyllis (Fazio) Fruciano, age 93, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonino “Anthony” Fruciano, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Boston on January 24, 1927 to the late Angelo and Serafina (Damiata) Fazio. Her family moved back to her parent’s homeland in Augusta, Sicily when she was four years old. Phyllis was moved to a convent where she was raised and schooled by Roman Catholic nuns. After finishing school, she moved back with her family in Augusta and was reacquainted with her five brothers and sisters. It was not too long after that her sister Maria’s boyfriend, Giuseppe, showed her a picture of his brother, Antonino, and from then a wonderful courtship began with a man she had never, nor would, meet for some time. Phyllis loved telling her grandchildren the story of how she “dated” their grandfather through nothing more than letters, including their arguments.
In 1951 Phyllis and her new husband returned to America where they would build their life and family together. Phyllis loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, but nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Phyllis is the devoted mother Diana M. Fruciano and her husband Steven Poole, and Anthony A. Fruciano and his wife Maureen Fruciano; the cherished grandmother of the late Nina Frissora, Shauna Frissora, Brianna Fruciano, Christina Fruciano and Sophia Fruciano; the beloved great-grandmother of Kaylee Goodrich, Michael Ewing and Michael Desimone; and the dear sister of Angelo Fazio. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins in America and Sicily.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis is predeceased by her son Frank J. Fruciano; her sisters Josephine Fazio and Maria Fruciano; and her brothers Domenic Fazio and Leo Fazio.
Phyllis’s visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church, 250 Revere Street, Revere, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
