Betty Mayrand Sather is called by the Lord Jesus Christ into His Glory

Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”

On April 23, 2018, Betty Mayrand Sather, at the age of 98, entered the presence of Christ, whom she loved and followed with great faithfulness, grace and goodness. With her pastor husband, Otto, Betty served in gospel ministry for 26 years at Plain Community Church in Plain, Washington. She and Otto also served another 26 years at Samish Island Memorial Chapel in Skagit County.

Betty was a dedicated and skilled teacher. With a degree in education from Western Washington University and previous studies at Washington State University, she taught at Warm Beach Christian School, prior to her marriage to Otto Sather. Teaching the Bible was her passion. She taught countless Sunday school classes, especially to teenagers, and also for years taught the Scriptures to women’s groups. Very many came to follow Jesus through her teaching. Betty also trained many of her students to themselves become teachers of God’s Word.

Betty was an accomplished musician with the piano, organ, accordion and bass viol. She used her musical gifts at the churches she and Otto served, and elsewhere. She generously shared her talent with the many youth in these churches, giving lessons in all of the instruments she played, as well as choir leading.

Betty was known for her quick wit, delicious meals and along with Otto were renown for their extraordinary hospitality. They invited family, friends and strangers—seemingly never too busy to take time to be hospitable and to share the Good News of the Gospel, helping others in their questions and struggles. She was a godly and wise counselor.

Betty will also be remembered for the beauty of her flower gardens, appearing and blossoming wherever she lived, gracing her home and the churches she and Otto served. The beauty her gardens brought was symbolic of her beauty of spirit and life of service.

Internment viewing and burial will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at Floral Hills Cemetery, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA, phone 425-672-1800. Viewing will begin at 9 AM and burial service at 12 PM.

At 11 AM on Saturday June 9, 2018 there will be a memorial service at Camano Chapel (the church where she and Otto were married 66 years ago), 867 South West Camano Drive, Camano Island, WA, 360-387-7202.
