Robert R. Utley

Robert R. Utley, 89, of Macon, died Saturday at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Keithen Tucker will officiate. The family will meet friends Monday from 6-8 PM at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Those who wish may make donations to St. James Episcopal Church, 1080 Courtland Ave., Macon, Georgia 31204.

Mr. Utley was born in Macon and was the son of the late Leroy J. Utley and the late Edna Pope Utley. He was a graduate of Lanier High School. Mr. Utley was a retired Captain from the Macon Police Department after 32 years of service and was also served as a bailiff for 20 years at the Bibb County Courthouse . Mr. Utley was a veteran of WWII having served in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, a Mason being a member of Mabel Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Bodies, and Al Sihah Shrine Temple. Mr. Utley was also a member of the American Legion Post #3, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Peace Officers Association of Georgia and a former member of the Macon Moose Club. He was also a former member of Riverside Golf and Country Club and Barrington Hall Golf and Country Club.

Mr. Utley is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty M. Utley of Macon, his daughter; Barbara E. Utley of Macon, his son; Gerry Utley of Macon, 2 grandchildren, Brian Utley and Kimberly Johnson both of Macon, 4 great grandchildren; Taylor Johnson, Kahlen Johnson, Sara Utley and Will Utley.

For many years he was always at the courthouse to help and greet. He was always a pleasure to talk to when I walked off the elevator. I am sure he will be missed by all that he touched. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Mrs.Utley I'm so sorry of hearing of bob death.I just heard about from my wife,when she received a letter from the fop.Bop was a fine man to work for and a great friend.The last time i spoke to Bob was at the county court house when he was working for them.I,f their anything I can do for you and the family please let mr know.
