She passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Sara, or Gran, as she was known to family, was born in Washington, Georgia in 1928. She met her husband Eugene Baldwin Stone in Milledgeville in 1947, while she was attending Georgia State College for Women and he was enrolled at Georgia Military College. The two were married in 1949, and enjoyed 66 years together, often travelling between their home in Macon and the family cabin at Moody Hollow, Hiawassee. Sara was a great lover of music, and she served as organist at Avalon Methodist and later the Christian Science Church for nearly 50 years.
Gran will be remembered by her four children, Gene (Linda), Marcia (Tim), Mary (Pat), and Sara (Bob), as well as her ten adoring grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Brooke, Morgan, Brad, Liz, Erin, Mallory, Grady, and Aaron, and eight great-grandchildren as well as our dear Trudie Punaro Thomas (Kit). We know our Gran and Gaddy are together again, waiting for us in the great cabin in the sky, with a roaring fire and a big pot of vegetable soup.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10th from 4pm to 6pm at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Cherry Street. A private funeral service will be attended by family. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make donations to Pine Pointe Hospice.
