Sylvia Marie Vanderieck Ely, 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 surrounded by her family. A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Father Mike Ingram officiating. A rosary will be said on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. and a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 866 Mulberry St., Macon GA 31201.
Mrs. Ely was born in Brussels, Belgium to the late Gerard and Augusta DeVos Vanderieck. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty nine years, Ernest E. Ely, son, Daniel G. Ely and a daughter, Linda E. Carraway and a brother, August Vanderieck. Mrs. Ely was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was retired from Macy’s Department Store as a Seamstress. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt who treasured her family and cherished time spent with them.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen Ely of Macon, Gregory (Beth) Ely of McDonough, Roger (Kathy) Ely of Macon, Paul (Paula) Ely of Macon, grandchildren, Audrey, Michelle, Chuck, Tonya, Tammy, Stephanie (Chris), Spencer, Phillip, Reed, Matthew, Hannah, Christopher (Katie), and Jonathan and several great grandchildren, brother, Georges Vanderieck of Brussels, Belgium and several nieces and nephews.
