Virgil Dever McCallum Jr., age 78, of Lizella, Georgia passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Fuller officiating. Due to COVID there will be no formal visitation and the family asks that masks please be worn to attend the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the donor's favorite charity.
Virgil was born in Macon, the son of the late Catherine Brown McCallum and Virgil D. McCallum, Sr. and was preceded in death by his sister, Vickie Mishoe and his brother, Donald McCallum. In his younger days, he was a Bibb County Firefighter, later engaged in the lumber business, and his last endeavor was an Independent Trucking business before he retired. Virgil was a passionate, kind, and gentle man. He loved and treasured all his family. Virgil spent his past time watching his Georgia Bulldogs and had a special love for horses through the years. He raised a champion quarter horse that he was so very proud of as well.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kay Walthall McCallum of Lizella; sons, Buddy McCallum and Phil Ivey (Ellie); daughter, Lisa Palmer (Steve); granddaughters, Allison McCallum and Chelsea Ivey; grandsons, Ryan McCallum and Mat Ivey (Natalie); great-granddaughter, Addilyn Ivey; sisters, Linda Malone (Steve), Brenda Veronee (Larry), and Cathy Jones (Richard); brothers, Jimmy McCallum (Janet) and Preston McCallum (Susan); a host of nieces and nephews.
