Very sad to hear Sandy passed away. I worked with her at Kavan's for almost two years. She told me many stories of all the years she had been there. She was a very dedicated and beautiful woman inside and out. She always asked me before she took a break although everytime I told her " Sandy you don't have to ask me you can set the bar on fire and I wouldn't be mad at you" The phone would start ringing on Monday and Wednesday around 4 pm like clockwork. She had so many regulars that called to make sure their favorite bartender would be there. I usually didn't work Wednesday but I would pick up shifts to see her. She will truly be missed and my prayers go out to her family.

Tony and Tracy,
So sorry for your loss. I remember babysitting you two while our dad's bowled and the many times your family would come over to play cards. Our parents would stay in the dining room while we ruled the house playing. I know I let you watch a scary movie once that had you scared to go to sleep and your mom just shrugged her shoulders and said you'd get over it. (I still felt bad)
Your mom was so nice and generous, she'll be missed.
With sympathy, Carrie

Of the many times we went over to the Pieper household so that the 'adults' could play cards, I remember January 1983 the most, mainly because of the Redskins being in the Super Bowl. Tracy, Tony, and I watched it with some enthusiasm while we played kid games. The atmosphere was electric and I just remember the excitement of that year.
I look at the pictures of Sandy, Bernie, Tracy, and Tony, on this site and those moments in time really transport me back to Detroit. I can remember those times we spent together quite vividly. I always looked forward to seeing them. We got to stay up late and break the rules!
But I also remember a dinner there where we had a lot of sauerkraut, and as a kid that was difficult!

Always, though, always, Sandy was THE nicest person to me. Like another mother. She'll definitely be missed. I'm so sorry that I cannot be there.

So sorry that we can't be there as we are in Florida. So many good, no great times we had, the Halloween and New Years Eve parties, the weekends away from our kids and especially... Sandy teaming up with Sherry to try and beat Bernie & I in double deck Pinochle. We would let them win once in a great while like 1 every 20 or 30 games. Sandy you will be missed by many. Join Bernie and both rest in peace.

We are so sorry for your loss. Sandy and Bernie were such good friends of mom and dad as we were growing up and we were blessed to have known them.
