Rachel Harvey Harvey Mason

Florence Rachel Harvey Mason of Lynchburg, passed away, Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Mountainview Nursing Home in Madison County.

Born March 4, 1917 in Charlotte County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Wiley Harvey and Lelia Tucker Harvey and was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Joseph Clay Mason, Jr.; two sisters, Sarah Dean and Martha Thacker and one brother-in-law, Earl Mason.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Carolyn M. Westrater and husband, Charles of Palmyra; two grandchildren, Brian C. Westrater and wife, Teresa of Yorktown and Susan W. Tomlin and husband, Kevin of Scottsville; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Westrater, both of Yorktown and two sisters, Ruth Lyons and Mary Willie Spencer, both of Madison Heights; one sister-in-law, Lois Mason of Elon, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rachel was a loving mother and homemaker. She loved time spent with family and friends and especially enjoyed attending family reunions. In past years she was very active in many church activities at Beulah Baptist Church, where she was a member.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at Beulah Baptist Church with Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
