George "Butch" Raymond Spurlock

August 17, 1948November 16, 2018

George Raymond “Butch” Spurlock, 70, of Johnstown, P.A., formerly of Charleston, W.V., passed away at home on November 16, 2018. He was the devoted husband of Sharon Craft Spurlock. They shared 50 years of marriage together. Sharon shares that he was her whole heart and soul, as she was to him.

Born in Charleston, W.V., he was the son of the late Hugh J. Spurlock and Hazel A. McKeown Spurlock. He attended Horace Mann Junior High School. Before retiring, he worked for West Virginia Department of Highways as an Equipment Operator and Crew Supervisor. Although he moved to Pennsylvania to be with his daughter and grandchildren, he was always a West Virginian at heart. He was preceded in death by his sisters Clara, Eula Dent, Deloris “Bitsy” Spurlock, Mildred Hill, and Betty Joseph.

Butch enjoyed working and always took pride in the work he did. For many years he enjoyed hunting and tinkering around in the workshop he built. Although his formal education was cut short, this did not stop him from being one of the smartest men you could ever meet. He could figure out how to do anything you put in front of him. He was a great father and husband. He will be remembered for his strength, hard work, and devotion to his family, and for some of his shenanigans. These humorous events we choose not only to keep quiet but very close to our hearts.

Butch is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughters, Shannon Givens (Jay) of Wallace, W.V., Christy Orie (Kenneth) of Johnstown, P.A., Grandchildren, Garrett Givens of Clarksburg, W.V., Caleb Orie of Waynesboro, P.A., Derik Harding, Sarah Reynolds, Brian Lanham, Natalie and Vivian Spurlock all from Johnstown, P.A., Great Grandchildren, Jasmyne and Nevaeh Reynolds, Soleia Orie-Sigworth of Johnstown, P.A., Siblings, Ellen Carter of Rand, W.V., Margaret Robinson of Charleston, W.V., Judith Hartsaw of Dunbar, W.V., and Darrell Spurlock of Charleston, W.V..

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Steven & Grass Funeral Home in Malden, with Pastor Jack Tucker officiating. Committal services at the chapel of Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston will immediately follow the service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 11 a.m. to the time the service begins.

The family would like to send special “Thank You’s” to both caregivers Catherine “Cat” ConCannon and Estelle Siebert.

So Sorry to the family of George Spurlock.

George was a kind man, and a good soul. I will miss him.

To Sharon, Christy, and Shannon, I know that you have lost a father and husband, and i know from losing my mother, the pain right now, is intolerable, but remember that he is in a place now where he is no longer in pain, and sharing his eternity with his God, and family and friends who have passed on.

Remember, at this time, it doesn't feel as if nothing will ever get better, but it will.

Love to you,

Greg Mccormick
