March 2, 1931June 25, 2018

Anthony Francis Gangemi, 87, of Red Bank, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. “Ace” was the youngest child of Thomas Gangemi, Sr. (former mayor of Jersey City) and Carrie (nee Romano) Gangemi. He was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. Following in the family business, he founded Anthony Gangemi, Inc, a successful supplier of fresh produce (mainly watermelons) to major supermarket chains in the Northeast US.

Anthony was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Gangemi, Sr. and his wife Carrie; his son, Anthony “Dukie” Gangemi; his sister, Marie Spadoro and brother, Thomas, “Buddy” Gangemi, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Vera (nee VanNostrand) and his five children; Jeannine, Lauren (Bob Hayden), Linda (Michael DeGrande), William “Billy” and Thomas “TJ”; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Anthony was a family man, husband, father, uncle and friend. He was exceedingly generous with all that God blessed him with, his time, wisdom and a family meal were always freely given to everyone who entered his home.

Anthony loved horses and was an avid racer of homing pigeons. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends with the British Virgin Islands and Italy being two of his favorite destinations. But above all, he was most comfortable at home, sitting at the kitchen table talking and sharing a meal.

Later in life, Anthony enjoyed cooking, politics, his NY Yankees and attending Sunday Mass with his beloved wife, Vera.

I will miss the many yrs of cooking together ( which means him standing behind me looking over my shoulder making sure Im cutting or chopping the Anthony way :) The BBQ Ribs story....Anthony called me to come over and have a few ribs he just made, they were delicious. 2 wks later I decided to make them for my family. I called him and asked "what did you put on the ribs?" he replied Jack Daniels. I said really? Ok how much, he replied 1/2 of a large bottle. Off I go and buy a lrg bottle of Jack Daniels, thinking to myself I cant believe Anthony spends 40.00 on Jack Daniels for ribs. I followed his instructions and while the ribs were in the oven I went to his house and he said "how are the ribs coming out?" I said I guess ok but I cant believe that you spend 40.00 on JD. He said what the hell are you talking about, I said I spent 40.00 at the liquor store, he cracked up for 20 minute trying to make it to the fridge to pull out Jack Daniels bbq sauce. It was pretty funny. The ribs survived and I dumped the bbq sauce on the them. It was one those moments I will never forget....I loved the way he laughed.🍉🍉❤❤
