July 29, 1920June 12, 2020

Esther L. Koval, 99, of Manasquan, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Hackensack Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation in Shrewsbury. Esther was born in Jersey City on July 29, 1920 to parents Nicholas and Margrethe Peterson. As a child, Esther and her family moved to South Royalton Vermont where she grew up on the family farm and attended White River Valley High School. Upon graduation, she moved to New York City where she met the love of her life, George. Esther and George were married in 1943 and spent 30 glorious years together raising their family and traveling.

After George left the military, he and Esther settled down in Manasquan. Esther spent many years working as a sale associate at Weir's Pharmacy in Manasquan. Although successful at her job, she was never more accomplished then in her career as a mother and grandmother. She loved baking and shopping, especially around Christmas time and she looked forward in the fall to travel to Piney Knob cabin in Pennsylvania where she and her family would make apple butter however, her true passion was her children and grandchildren. Esther, albeit well known for her brownies and cones, it was her warm loving and caring personality that will be sorely missed by family and friends alike. Esther was a long time member of the Sons of Norway.

She was predeceased by her husband George Koval, parents Nicholas and Margrethe Peterson, sister Eleanor Allen and her husband, Joseph, brothers, Ernest Peterson and his wife, Jessie and Earl Peterson and his wife, Marie.

She is survived by her children, son, Ronald Koval and his wife, Gwen of College Station, Texas, daughter, Sandra Herbert and her husband, Jack of Manasquan, grandchildren, John and his wife, Megan of Brielle, Lance and his wife, Rebecca of Belmar, great grandchildren Jack, Ella, Renee, Luke, Landon, Kate and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
